A special spot to
wander about with a camera and a couple
lenses is Governors Island, accessible
via a very short ferry ride from Lower
Manhattan (the departure point for our
workshop) or Brooklyn.
Grassy expanses and older physical
structures offer some unique visual
opportunities, a chance to explore
closeup former U.S. Army and Coast Guard
buildings and two forts from the early
19th century. Bicyclists abound, but
we'll be walking as we scout this
island-park for impressive views of the
NYC skyline, Statue of Liberty and water
traffic that sails by, stopping to
capture the pounding waves that strike
rock and send sprays high, right below
the walkways. Public art sculptures and
people watching are additional subjects
that Governors Island provides for savvy
photographers. A photographer's summer
really shouldn't go by without a visit
here, and this class makes for a
visually rewarding experience.
The Governors
Island Photo Workshop is one of a series of NYC
area classes that I teach. See the entire schedule and sign up for
my class mailing list to hear about
new dates for workshops and photo outings.
Hope you can join us!
