The Holga is a
plastic film camera that provides an
alternative way of taking pictures -
it's minimalistic (which means it's easy
to use, light to carry, and even costs
less than $40).
Anyone can use the Holga - you don't
need photography experience (but the
better you see, the better your
photographs will be). Over a few
decades, the Holga has become a cult
favorite, and even the most professional
photographers have created images with
the Holga that have appeared in gallery
exhibits, magazines, and advertising.
Mine have been featured in international
advertising, on the pages of The NY
Times, on book covers and music CDs.
Participants in this class receive a
Holga camera and 120 format B&W or
color film,
plus tips on how to get the best results
and embrace the surprises of light
leaks, vignetting, and blur. This a
shortened version of my regular Holga
class. See more information on this
camera and browse some of my Holga
photos here. Watch a
short video clip where I
talk about the Holga, and its relevance
in an era where so many people
photograph with their phones.
The Magical
Holga is one of a series of NYC area classes
that I teach. See the entire schedule and sign up for
my class mailing list to hear about
new dates for workshops and photo outings.
Hope you can join us!
