Holiday time in the city has a special
feel, and the holiday window displays at the
major department stores in Manhattan are one of
the most popular city attractions this time of
year - for New Yorkers and out-of-towners alike.
But what about for photographers? If you have a
good camera and some patience, you'll be able to
successfully capture some of the astonishing
selections of colorful vignettes, animated
puppets, and even historical themes, and also
focus on the packed sidewalk audiences who line
up to view the huge picture windows and their
holiday magic.
This special seasonal photo walk that I'm
leading, covering just over a mile and a half,
explores four holiday window locations, with
instruction on how to capture the scenes with
detail and proper technique. I'll provide
important advice on looking for the best
composition within the overall window
compositions, dealing with reflections in glass,
motion of characters on display, and how to also
record the people that are watching and enjoying
this once-a-year window design festival.
The Holiday Windows Photo Walk is one of a
series of NYC area classes that I teach. See the
entire schedule and sign up for
my class mailing list to hear about
new dates for workshops and photo outings.
