photo classes

A good flea market on a weekend is a place to find objects of interest, including the unexpected finds that you simply can't find anywhere else. And it's a place to people watch, to observe what shoppers find appealing - and what they actually buy, and to meet some of the sellers that sit many hours with their collections of everything.

In this class, we're going to spend a morning at an Upper West Side flea market and each participant will work on their own photo essay to portray the diverse aspects of the flea market experience - as they see it.

As we walk around, I'm going to provide challenges and photo suggestions to insure that you produce a series of images that captures some of the feeling of the subject. I'll talk about photographing strangers, making visual sense of disorganized and random objects, the components of a photo essay, and how you might present your work for others to see. We'll also discuss camera settings and lens choices that apply to this type of environment.

The Sunday Flea Market Photo Class is one of a series of NYC area classes that I teach. See the entire schedule and sign up for my class mailing list to hear about new dates for workshops and photo outings.

Hope you can join us!
